Title: How number connects to everything else
Abstract: I'll provide an overview of my lab's research on the cognitive underpinning of numerical cognition. First, I'll describe work in which we derive properties of number perception from boundedly rational information processing, in order to provide a unifying account of many properties of number psychophysics. This work also connects number perception to aspects of visual memory and attention. Second, I'll discuss our work on modeling children’s developmental patterns in number as algorithm discovery, with a focus on comparisons that highlight how cultural factors determine the form of our number representations.
