Title: From virtual reality to reality: How neurons make maps
Abstract: There are four pillars of hippocampal function: Hebbian synaptic plasticity, spatial navigation, episodic memory and place cells. But He has recently developed a noninvasive, immersive virtual reality where rodents can be tested under similar conditions as humans. This, combined with computational modeling, has provided surprising insights about rodent hippocampal responses that increasingly resemble those in rodents and primates. The results open up avenues for translational work from rodents to humans for a range of disorders, esp ADRD.
